Biography
Engr. Dr Yawar Abbas Bangash is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) programme at the Department of Smart Computing and Cyber Resilience (DSCCR), School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø, Malaysia. He is also a Tenured Associate Professor at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, where he remains on leave, and serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan.
He received his Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Software Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan, in 2008, Master of Science in Computer Science (Information Security) from Wuhan University of Technology, China, in 2014, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2017. Prior to joining academia, he accumulated over four years of industry experience, serving in networking and ICT engineering roles at Huawei Technologies Pakistan, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan (PERN2 Project), and the Balochistan Education Foundation.
Dr Bangash has over a decade of international experience in teaching, research, supervision, and academic leadership across Malaysia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and China. His research spans Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Human Factors in Software Engineering and Cybersecurity, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Software-Defined Storage (SDS), Information Security, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Centre Networking, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Formal Methods, and Smart Computing Systems.
He has authored more than 30 SCI/SCIE journal articles (including 25 Q1 publications) and 17 international conference papers, with a cumulative journal impact factor exceeding 210. His work has appeared in leading journals, including IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Systems Journal, Neural Computing and Applications, Cluster Computing, IEEE Access, and several other high-impact international venues. His publications have attracted more than 1,650 citations, with an h-index of 15.
Beyond research, Dr Bangash has successfully supervised numerous undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students and has secured significant international research funding, including serving as Co-Principal Investigator of the €1 million Erasmus+ ReCyP:HER project on cybersecurity capacity building. He has delivered keynote speeches, workshops, and professional training on Artificial Intelligence, 5G Networks, Software-Defined Networking, Cybersecurity, Human Factors, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and Research Methodology across academia and industry.
His current research focuses on Agentic AI, Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence, AI for Software Engineering, Software-Defined Networking, Cybersecurity, Human-Centred Computing, Digital Twins, Intelligent IoT Systems, Cloud and Edge Computing, and Next-Generation Secure Computing Infrastructures.

Rethinking Cybersecurity in Pakistan: Human factors’ Essential Role ReCyP:HER, Funded by Erasmus +, EU, worth of one million Euros. The goal of project is to create a comprehensive capacity building in Pakistan for the area of cyber security and the connection with psychological
domain, and human factor.
RECYP:HER LAB INCHARGE (Research Lab)
I was the overall in-charge of the established lab under the EU funded project as mentioned in the Funded Projects heading. My role was to maintain different trainings related to cyber security, human factors, and software engineering. This
